Regional Flood Management Planning
Landowners, public agencies and community organizations have been partnering to identify and address regional flood management challenges and opportunities within the Lower San Joaquin River basin and the southern portion of the Delta (map). With input from their communities, these organizations developed a regional flood management plan in 2014 that describes the long-term, local vision for flood risk reduction. It also identifies projects for potential future state and federal funding.
The plan includes, among other things:
- Flood protection problems and opportunities
- Potential projects and priorities
- Financial plan
The Regional Flood Management Plan has been periodically updated since 2014. In 2021, SJAFCA developed a white paper to document regional priorities as part of the third update.
Regional Priorities White Paper - January 15, 2021
The planning process is being funded by the Department of Water Resources with bond funding approved by California voters in 2006.
